SIGCHI.be event in Louvain-la-Neuve

17/03/2009 - 17:00 - 20:00

SIGCHI.be, the Belgian chapter of the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Human Interaction (SIGCHI) of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) brings together individuals living in Belgium who have a keen interest in Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Engineering, Experience Design and User-Centered Design - to exchange ideas, learn from and get to know each other.

2009 is going to be a tough one. Budgets are being cut and projects put on hold. On top of that, many fear for their jobs and have become reluctant to innovate or explore. These are times, however, where entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation can really make a difference.

The current climate is an opportunity to question your business and organizational model, to explore new routes, to invest in talent and challenge your clients … but also to better understand their needs.

At the next SIGCHI.be event on Tuesday 17 March, Pieter Goiris, CEO of Boondoggle, discusses the approach his communication agency has taken in face of the global downturn: introducing a mix of creativity, data, content, social networking, point of sales and experience into ROI-driven services, campaigns, solutions and projects. The remedies of Pieter Goiris may very well apply to our own HCI industry: entrepreneurship, humor, Zen, creativity, flexibility, music, DNA, involvement, engagement and dreams. And maybe also the brand ‘Obama’.

After Pieter’s talk and a short break, it's demo time again! This time over, we are looking for demos of advanced, non-traditional user interfaces (touch, gesture, etc.). We already have demos scheduled by Hasselt University EDM, Alcatel Lucent and Namahn, but we’re still looking for additional demos. So, if you’re interested in showing us something of your cutting-edge work, please send mail to david.geerts@soc.kuleuven.be. Note that your demo doesn't have to be a fully working system: prototypes, online demos, posters, mockups and the like are perfect alternatives.
