Traffic congestion. What can the designer do but despair?

13/11/2008

World Usability Day is a worldwide initiative that promotes usability, user experience, information architecture and all things user centric. Every year in Belgium, an evening conference is organised by Emakina, followed by an opportunity to network over drinks.

During his lecture on this evening, Joannes Vandermeulen will explore how human-centered design and its bag of tricks can contribute to the design or remodelling of transport infrastructures in order to alleviate congestion. A lot of congestion is wholly unnecessary and avoidable, if only the design of the interface was right. Aren’t traffic signs the user interface between the driver and the road infrastructure?

More information on the event can be found on the Belgian Usability Day 2008 website.
