Koen Peters

Before joining Namahn in the spring of 2001, Koen worked as a high school teacher and in a publishing house as an editor and web master for an educational web site.

What attracted you to Namahn?

I first heard about Namahn from someone who knew the type of culture I liked to work in and praised Namahn's working environment. I went to their web site and applied.

What are your main skills?

My experience at Namahn lies mainly in interaction design, project management, and enterprise information architecture.

These last few years, my role at Namahn has evolved: until a few years ago, I used to be mainly involved in interaction design projects, but I’m currently focusing more on information architecture projects for major web sites and enterprise information architecture. I also do more project management. Managing teams has turned out to be really challenging. It simply is not easy to know how to get the best out of a team you’re managing. I still have a lot to learn on this part.

What are your biggest achievements?

Having three wonderful children! They surprise me every day, and it is a delight to see them grow up and discover new things.

What is your biggest dream?

You don't need much to be happy. I simply try to stay healthy, have a few good friends, enjoy my job, cherish my relationship with my girlfriend and raise my three little sons Max, Kobe and Linus as best as I can. In 2002, my girlfriend spent nearly two months of her pregnancy in hospital, and later on we lost Wies, the twin brother of Max. He died at the age of 5 weeks. Such an event helps you put things into perspective and be modest in your expectations and dreams. Even after all these years, this experience still shapes the way I live and think in an important way.

What is your favourite journey?

What I love the most are the hiking and bike trips I do regularly in and around Brussels. My girlfriend and I used to travel abroad a lot, but with young kids around, it simply is too much hassle. I would like to make a city trip to New York in the near future. I’m reading about New York at the moment, and it remains a really fascinating, vibrant city. I visited New York for half a day in 1989, on the last day of my one-year stay in the United States as an exchange student. In april 2008, I went to the IAsummit in Miami with several Namahn colleagues, and that trip really got me interested again in the US.

Like most of your colleagues, you're a musician.

Yes, I’ve been singing in choirs for 20 years now. We usually get together every other week to sing Renaissance and Baroque music. I used to play the guitar a lot, though I haven't really had the time to do so in the past few years. Now that my oldest son is taking his first steps in music, I’m thinking of joining him and picking up an instrument again.
