Technical description
In January 2004, the underlying code and back-end was drastically simplified, transforming the technical set-up from a complex XML-based infrastructure with heavy, Netscape 4 compliant HTML-code, to a light, static site with purely CSS-based lay-out and standard-compliant HTML-code (XHTML 1.0), all this without changing the graphic design of the site in any way.

Accessibility
We have worked hard to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We have tried to make the content more accessible by doing the following:
- Making content as clear and understandable as possible
- Adding text alternatives (Alt-tags) for images
- Using the client-side image map
- Using CSS to separate structure and semantics from presentation
- Providing clear and consistent navigation
- Making text as readable as possible, by using enough contrast (dark text on a light background) and scalable font-sizes
- Providing a liquid design, fit for different screen sizes (instead of a frozen design)
- Structuring Documents with Mark-up: header tags, lists, etc.
- Ensuring cross-browser compatibility
- Avoiding deprecated features of HTML, using XHTML 1.0
- Allowing access for low-bandwidth users
In promoting accessibility and following accessibility guidelines, we are trying to make the content on our Web site accessible not only to people with disabilities, but to all users, whatever constraints they may be operating under (over-illuminated room, noisy surroundings, etc.).
